MONCARAPACHO
Situated north east of Faro and approximately a 15 minute drive inland, Moncarapacho is a typical Portuguese market town offering local shops and a small selection of restaurants. Located a short drive from the motorway which provides easy access for discovering the unspoilt east of the Algarve. Spain is also only a 30-minute drive away on the local motorway!
The surrounding areas are mainly farming offering you a real taste of Portugal. Santa Catarina (only 5 mins away) is famous for the red, hand made tiles on the floors of our local houses. You can see local potteries dotted all around. Very little English is spoken adding that touch of reality. Fuzeta, a typical fishing village, provides a small 'town' beach, or by the local ferry you can discover the local island beaches.
Moncarapacho
like other villages and towns east of Faro it is not so touristy and where many locals live, great for hiding away for those wanting to stay in the Algarve but still have the many tourist facilities within easy driving distance. The A22 motorway has a junction some 3km north hence getting to Spain or to Albufeira takes no time at all.The area is well known for traditional crafts including leather for horse harnesses and the making of ceramics (some good buys to be had). Large flower growing operation to the northeast.
The main church, although small, is well worth a look as it is both unusual and has a small museum next to it that has items dating to pre-roman times.
Moncarapacho
has a large 3-day festival in the first weekend of August showing the many items produced in the area.
