Read what some of our guests have had to say about their stay at holiday apartments Casa Rosa.
Our second holiday at Casa Rosa proved to be a very enjoyable one. Despite the changeable weather we often enjoyed our lunches around the pool in the garden. Those of us who were not constantly taking photographs enjoyed the use of the swimming pool on warm afternoons. We had planned to have a barbecue, but the day we picked turned out to be the only very wet day. However, having already bought all the ingredients from the local supermarket, we retired indoors for our dinner. It was a big advantage to have a good-sized kitchen/dining area to accommodate 6 people. Hopefully we will manage a barbecue next time.
On several evenings we ate out at restaurants in the nearby town of Moncarapacho.
Restaurant Antonio was a favourite from our previous visit. Once again, the food and friendly service were excellent. We also had a meal at Da Anas (Ana’s) and enjoyed it so much we immediately booked a table for the following night. Ana’s has a more limited menu but serves beautifully cooked lamb and black pork alongside local fish dishes, tasty ‘specials’ and addictive calamari. We highly recommend Antonio’s and Ana’s. After a long day out a relaxing evening-in with a pizza delivery can be an attractive prospect. Having enjoyed their pizzas the last time, we called in at ‘Pizza & Love’ to arrange a delivery to Casa Rosa for the following evening. It turned out to be a lovely evening, so pizza and wine by the pool was a very enjoyable way to end to the day.
Another discovery in Moncarapacho was the bakery, which became our regular coffee & cake stop – very friendly service, good coffee, lovely bread and cakes.
Dining in at Casa Rosa is always a pleasure with Kjersti’s fine cooking. She was able to arrange dinner for us on 3 evenings during our stay this time. The evenings were very sociable occasions as we were joined by some of the other Casa Rosa guests. We had pork fillet, pork cheeks and seared tuna steaks, all beautifully cooked as usual, accompanied by delicious soups and desserts (and quite a bit of wine!).
Many thanks to Kjersti and Jan-Ketil for your warm welcome and hospitality. We think Casa Rosa is a delightful place to stay and we look forward to our next visit.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our holiday here at Casa Rosa. Kjersti and Jan have been perfect hosts, never intrusive, always there when you need them, always happy to provide information on what is on and what is around. Perhaps it is the ideal combination. Norwegian hospitality, organization, standards (and cooking!) plus Portuguese weather and beaches, all add up to a great holiday. Carlie, Bill, Heather and Andrew. Glasgow, Scotland.
Let us play a game; as there are 4 of us each of us will say what we enjoyed most about our holidays in Casa Rosa. Ane, 7, will start: Hi. I liked bolinhas, beach Fuseta and the pool. Julia, 3, flowers. David: I will remember the light early in the morning with this big blue sky. Montse: Everything. Just being together in this peaceful place. Oviedo, Spain.
Had a great week, even better than last time. Great weather, great birding and amazing flowers. Visited lots of local birding hotspots and again was not disappointed. Perfect thank you Jan and Kjersti. First class, relaxing accommodation. Would recommend to anyone- hope to return very soon. Made some good friends. Steve and Kathy Palmer
We have had a wonderful time here at Casa Rosa. You are the perfect hosts for this perfect location. We have met some very interesting people and absolutely loved the beautiful white sandy beaches. You arer welcome anytime you wish to visit Edinburgh. We would love to see you there. Thank you so much for making our holiday such a success. Wit love from Linda, Bryce, Nicholas, Calum and Fraser.
Thank you to Jan and Kjersti and Casa Rosa for another lovely holiday. This place is now like a second home to us and we love everything about it. Once again, thank you. Sue and Michael Shelton
Dear Kjersti and Jan-Ketil
Thanks for a very nice time at your beautiful place! We enjoyed our week in the pleasant Portuguese spring a lot and found almost all birds we were looking for. Since we found so many great places buzzing with birdlife at this time of the year we hardly had time to relax at your place. We keep that for our return.
All the best Mathias Schleuning and Monika Huaycochea. (Frankfurt, Germany and Cuzco, Peru)
Total relaxation at Casa Rosa has confirmed we made the right choice. This is a lovely spot and we have enjoyed everything it offers. Thank you to our hosts for an enjoyable meal on Thursday. Jan and Kjersti have been so helpful and we have had great information from them about the local area and its wildlife.
The apartment is really comfortable. We said YIPPEE when the weather improved and Jan opened the pool from its winter sleep.
“Takk” from Dennis and Lorrain Johnson, Pertshire, Scotland.
Het war een heerlijke week in een prachtige ovgeving. De kinderen hebben erg genoten van diverse stranden veel dorpjes bezocht en heerlijk gegeten. Prima appartement, moi gelegen en vooi zwembad.
Kortom volgend jaar
Groet Patricia, Roel, Mike en Stan. Jan en Kjersti bedankt.
Excellent weather and most comfortable accommodation. Thanks to Jan and Kjersti for all their help and information and the lovely meal midweek. We enjoyed the birds and wildflowers and return to the UK much more relaxed and feeling healthy. We are hoping to return to Casa Rosa, maybe at a later date, say April time one year.
Bye for now
Rod and Jill Atkinson
We nearly did not get here because of gales in the UK. The first morning was fantastic – Hoopoes and Azul-winged magpies seen from our bedroom window before breakfast. We had a lovely week exploring locally, seeing lots of birds, enjoyed a wonderful meal with some of the other guests. We were able to stop and relax for the first time for months – just what we needed. Thank you Jan and Kjersti for your welcome and providing such a fantastic place.
Pete and Ethne Withlock , Isle of Wight, UK
We had a lovely month at Casa Rosa campsite. Very relaxing and a good base for visiting around Eastern Algarve. Our family joined us over the festive season , staying in the apartments. (Our son, his wife and our 2 year old grandson from Scotland and our daughter and her husband from America). It was a lovely family time.
Many thanks for a lovely time at Casa Rosa
Allan and Elaine Gillon, Largs, Scotland.
Only one sad thing to say about our visit here is that we have to leave today. Everything was nice. This is a perfect place to stay if you want to watch birds in the Algarve as we did! Hearing hoopoes voice first thing you wake up in the morning, accompanied with azur-winged magpies, that is wonderful! We think this is one of the best places we have stayed in our journey’s, thanks to you, Kjersti and Jan-Ketil. We hope you enjoy this as much as we did and we wish you all the best here for many many years. We hope we can come back here.
Jaana Sarvala and Timo Ikonen, Finland
We were very excited to spend our autumn holiday here at Casa Rosa after reading the website but it has far exceeded our expectations. Although the cloudy days did enable us to travel to good bird locations including Castro Marim, saltpans at Fuseta and Olhao + Quinta do Lago. Some may be heading to Africa now but we have seen flamingoes, storks avocets, black winged stilts, plovers – Grey and Kentish to name but a few. Raptors seen; unidentified eagle, marsh harriers, osprey, little owl. Hoopoes and magpies frequent the gardens at Casa Rosa. Would definitely recommend Casa Rosa for bird watching plus the fabulous apartments, bistro evening, Kjersti and Jan’s hospitality. Perfect – will be back in the spring to see the wild flowers. Tusen takk . Steve and Kathy Palmer, UK
Dear Kjersti and Jan-Ketil
Thank you for being here. Casa Rosa is one of my favorite places in the whole world. That is one of the reasons for being here for the 4th time. Love to you.
Sue and Michael Shelton, UK
We have enjoyed this location very much, away from the “touristy” areas but close enough to take advantage of Aqualand, Splash and Slide, etc. for the kids. Beaches close by are also worth a visit. But the best part of the whole stay has to be the pool, even on all our trips the kids just wanted to get back to the pool and its perfect temperature to cool down in. This is our first time in the Portugal Algarve but it will most definitely not be our last.
Thanks – Claire, Neill, Liam and Ben Boyle, Ireland
We have had s super week here at Casa Rosa and the Algarve. Kjersti and Jan-Ketil have been wonderful hosts, and it has been great that Casa Rosa tape into so much of the local supplier, from the morning bread rolls to the hire car. The grounds have been quiet and relaxing – a proper chance to get away from city life. The wildlife has been brilliant too from red-necked nightjar to little owls. And it is all in close distance to the town, villages, beaches, Spain mountains and national parks. Simply relaxing by the pool has been great too, and we very much enjoyed the special meal cooked by Kjersti. It is a shame we are unable to stay longer, but an evening flight mean we can spend another full day in Portugal.
Many, many thanks, Ed Drewitt and Liz Shaw
Thanks for a great stay at a fantastic location. Very friendly and helpful hosts and the apartment was spot on. The bread delivered daily was really nice. Casa Rosa is a great location to get to the rest of the Algarve and other locations for birding. It was great to see short-toed eagle, little owl and barn owl within five minutes walk of the grounds of as well as hoopoe and to actually get a good view of a cuckoo instead of just hearing them! Seen a number of lifetime firsts on this trips and would love to come back and see some more. Have to say, a trip in the pool after a day’s walking was most enjoyable. Would highly recommend Casa Rosa as a base for an Algarve holiday to anyone who asks.
Cathal, Robert and Sean, UK
We returned again for another 6 weeks starting early January and yet again we were not disappointed. Third winter now we have enjoyed our stay here at Casa Rosa. Kjersti and Jan were on hand for any queries and we had some excellent meals cooked by Kjersti.
Good cycling area for the experienced and novices. Beaches and bird watching go well together. This will not be our last visit.
Joan and Tony, UK
Lovely peaceful stay in unspoilt setting. We all thoroughly enjoyed our first experience of birding in the Algarve and were delighted to see over 140 species, including quite a lot of ‘lifers’. Our favorite site was Ludo near to Faro airport. Georg proved to be an excellent guide, on our 2 days out with him.
Thank you Kjersti and Jan for your excellent hospitality, including the excellent dinners which we enjoyed in your lovely dining room. It was a great way to celebrate Dave’s 60th birthday. We all hope to return sometime soon.
Sheila and Roger, Dave and Rose, Anne – UK
Casa Rosa is a fine place to stay either for a week like us or much longer as other guests. Kjersti and Jan-Ketil are great hosts, friendly and always at hand if needed. Kjersti is also a very good cook – the pork fillet proves it!
Our week here provided an escape from the heavy snows at home, unfortuneately Birmingham airport has re-opened so we must leave tomorrow. A winter break here was excellent, but a spring or summer holiday at Casa Rosa will be even better. We will be back.
Paul and Deborah Lathbury, UK
This was a week workshop singing. A wonderful week with 20 people from Amsterdam, Marja Oldenhave have (conductor) learnt us a lot of nice English, Dutch and even a Russian song. Friday and Saturday we had the performance in Fuseta and Olhao. Big success!
Thank you Kjersti and Jan-Ketil for making it possible (leaving your home to us) to eat, drink, sing and laugh from morning until late at night. We very much enjoyed our stay with you here.
John and Sigrid and all the others.
Willemien came across Casa Rosa on the internet. I didn’t like the idea of the Algarve particularly! Now I must revise my opinion completely, because after a 4 days drive from Belgium, through France and Spain, this place is a revelation!
We come to rest in these quiet surroundings with its wonderful scenery. Not only is the apartment very nice and comfortable, but we were also struck by the unobtrusive care and thoughtful attentiveness of Jan-Ketil and Kjersti.
Also, we walked a lot in the neighborhood, enjoying the beautiful nature.
A big thank you for your hospitality, we hope to return!
Willemien en Wout van Lingen, Lommel, Belgium
Lovely, quiet and very comfortable place to stay. Just three days of full time birding, but a great location with so much to see locally – Hoopoe, woodchat shrike and Azure winged magpie whilst having breakfast!! Quinta Marim is a great nature reserve and only 10 mins drive.
Love to come back.
Ed and Toni
Location, location, location – what a place and view!
I knew as soon as I arrived and saw my first woodchat shrike within seconds of arriving that we would have a great holiday, and we did.
Plenty of places visited, plenty more far next time.
Clive and Pauline, Suffolk, England
We had a wonderful stay at Casa Rosa thanks to our very obliging hosts. The apartment was comfortable and clean.
This was our first visit ot the Algarve and we were very impressed with the accommodating and the surrounding area. We visited several castles and many nature reserves in the area but there is still much here to see and do so I am sure we will visit again.
Best wishes Carol and Chris
For the second time we stayed some days in one of your apartments. Like last year everything was ok!
Being birdwatchers you did not see much of us, leaving before sunrise and often returning after sunset. In four days we spotted 166 species.
This place is a very good starting point for birdwatching. North, west and east at an acceptable distance. Even going to Spain, Coto Donana, can be done within some days and after that return to Casa Rosa was a possibility to took. Thanks to the hospitality of Jan and Kjersti.
This is a place to remember and to return to in future.
Paul, Ronald and Kees
A complete list of species (in Dutch) can be seen at www.vogelers.nl
We arrived in cold weather in the rain! But we had a very comfortable stay at Casa Rosa and enjoyed our days in the Eastern Algarve!
Thank you for all your helpful and friendly advice in helping us to have a comfortable and very pleasant holiday.
Pam and Christopher Langton
Dear Kjersti and Jan
Alan, Tony and Bob would like to thank you for your hospitality and kindness and for perfecting our cycling holiday.
A welcome base to return to which we surely will. To the perfect hosts once again we thank you. Bob, Tony and Alan. England
Not knowing where to go in the Algarve for our holiday, we picked Casa Rosa because it was mentioned in one of the bird watchers reports on the internet, as being a nice place to stay. And a good choice it was! Apartments and surroundings are very nice. A day in sunshine, in the garden only we saw 27 different species. We visited all the well known birding sites and still have not been everywhere we planned to go. So hopefully we will be back in this lovely house soon.
Thank you for a very nice stay, Kjersti and Jan-Ketil.
Thinus and Cecile Heek, Netherlands
We have enjoyed our stay here. Our hosts Jan-Ketil and Kjersti, have been very friendly and helpful. It has been very quiet and peaceful. Lots of birdlife to see. We have found the cycle path and that is very good – although I did get a puncture!
Moncarapacho is the village which has everything and Barril beach is lovely. Hope to be back sometime. The neighbors have been fine too.
Gill and Terry Mullen, Dorset UK
Casa Rosa is a rare gem in the Algarve, beautifully situated. Clean, spacious apartments equipped to a very high standard. We loved the thoughtful additions that made self catering so easy. The house and grounds are gorgeous, the hosts are delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
The bird watching was amazing, our best day was at Quinta do Lago. We saw curlew, whimbrell, storks, heran, egret, flamingo, plover, wax bill, little bittern, glossy ibis, I could go on!
A fantastic few days, we would like to return again and again.
Alison and Glenn – Ware, Hertfordshire, England
Our first time to Portugal and the Algarve, and we could not have picked a better or more friendly place to stay. Thanks to Jan-Ketil and Kjersti for being such attentive and helpful hosts, it makes everything else so easy! There has not been one single thing that we have not enjoyed during our stay and we have fallen in love with the people, the birding and Casa Rosa! Over 120 birds seen and 37 were lifers, i.e. seen for the first time!
Lots of lovely walks, empty beaches, traditional fishing villages and boat trips to do, on top of some of the best birdwatching in Europe. Makes us wonder what May would be like?
Many thanks Will and Priscilla, Oxford, UK.
Beautiful weather, warm welcome, lovely garden, ‘super de luxe swimmingpool’, very clean and light apartment, everything so tasteful, friendly people, this must be like garden of Eden..
Glad to have met the more natural side of the Algarve. The Portuguese people are special, don’t get them yet, but we love them anyway. Have to come back some time. Moncarapacho reminds us at the Far West, don’t know why but we loved it! Thanks for all your kindness.
Elisabeth, Marleen and Win, the Belgians
Dear Kjersti and Jan-Ketil
Thank you for your kin hospitality and immaculate accommodation.
Your laid-back but attentive attitude is just our style. We have enjoyed every minute of our holiday in this part of the magnificent Algarve. We will return. Chris and I have not been converted to the Aguaradente Figo though (ha,ha,ha).
Kind regards The ‘Lihou’ family, Aberdeen, Scotland
We have returned to Casa Rosa again this year for the tenth time. We have, as always, been given a warm and friendly welcome by our hosts, Jan and Kjersti. Our fellow guests have been charming and the evenings on the terrace enjoying Kjersti’s excellent cooking and the friendly atmosphere have been especially enjoyable.
Each year we continue to enjoy the unchanging character of the area, and will be returning again next year. Unfortuneately, there will be no ‘World Cup’ (what a night in Spain), but the five-a-side tournament in Fuzeta comes a close second.
Richard and Jenny Bartram, Derbyshire, UK.
We have had a lovely holiday at CASA ROSA. Kjersti and Jan have been so helpful and the meals on the terrace have been lovely and convivial. Good food and just the right atmosphere. Of course we’ve also enjoyed the perfect weather and the pool before dining!
We’ve enjoyed the best bird watching triops and the fantastic fish meals in Olhao.
Stephen and Gillian, Auckland, New Zealand
We have had a great week at your lovely villa in this beautiful area of Portugal and Algarve. Many thanks for all your help and hospitality.
Ann and Peter, Surrey, UK
Dear Jan and Kjersti
We have enjoyed a very nice say in a really fully equipped apartment. Both the lazy days (mostly in the weekend) at the pool and the tours through the beautiful surrounding have been a great pleasure. We mostly and greatly enjoyed the view of the 3 small kittens that we could see from our room early mornings.
Nicole and Kathleen, Netherlands
Kjersti and Jan-Ketil
Our third visit in 18 months… that says it all. Had a fantastic time as usual. Thank you both for the hospitality and the beautiful meals. Very sad to be leaving. Hope to see you in October.
Thanks again Jane and Ger Griffin, Ireland
We have had an excellent week of birding around the local area and at Donana. Highly recommended for all Birdwatchers. We really enjoyed your wonderful meal and you made us feel very welcome. Love to visit again sometime in the future during Autumn time.
All the best from Geoff and Mark Hunt, UK
8 DAYS IN ALGARVE DAYS 9-16 (see previous)
As expected the “free ash” from Iceland halted our departure but luckily we were able to remain at Casa Rosa – thanks again to Jan-Ketil and Kjersti. After the hectic schedule of the original week life was at gentler pace and we took the enforced opportunity to venture both to the Coto Donana in Spain and Nundar Castle near Barrancas as well as revisiting our favorite sites of Quinta do Lago and Pera Marsh while we also visited Rocha Brava lighthouse near Portimao, got lost and ended up at the cliffs at Praia de Marina nearby and were rewarded with stunning views of Alpine Swifts.
The last couple of days saw the weather remember it was the Algarve not the UK and the final day – take 2 – spent around Casa Rosa saw a stunning display of flying by the Bee Eaters that lasted most of the day, an outstanding way to end our stay.
Chris and Phil, UK
We stayed at Casa Rosa for 1 week during our tour of Spain and Portugal and we wished we had booked for longer. Casa Rosa is a “real find”. The apartment, pool and garden were clean and comfortable. This is an area away from the busy Algarve but plenty to see and do. Bird watching, walking, lovely beaches, interesting historical areas.
Thank you to Jan-Ketil and Kjersti for their hospitality, good food and information.
Hope to be back soon.
Denise and Tony, Lytham, UK
We have had a very good holiday here. Casa Rosa is just right for a restful and relaxing holiday, and Jan-Ketil and Kjersti have been most helpful and friendly. They have made us feel very welcome, and our apartment was comfortable with everything we needed.
We have enjoyed the birding very much, walking on the tracks round here, seeing bee-eaters, azure-winged magpies, Sardinean warblers and many other birds – delightful!
The weather has been mixed, and we did get very wet after one long walk! But the food cooked by Kjersti was excellent. The restaurant just down the road is also good value if more basic. We would be happy to come back for another holiday.
Thank you – Sandra and Ann, UK
Enjoyed our stay at Casa Rosa, picked for central location and bird watching and not disappointing. Azure Magpies every morning from kitchen window. We visited Castro Verde (twice), Ria Formosa, Castro Marim, Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura and would recommend all to bird watchers. Jan and Kjersti very helpful and look forward to returning at some point. Vulcano erupting in Iceland may make it sooner than anyone might expect!
Chris and Phil, UK
Thank you Kjersti and Jan for making our week so comfortable and enjoyable. Apartment 6 with its dual aspect and big windows is ideal for indoor bird watching (yes it did rain for some of our time here!). Casa Rosa is an ideal base for bird watching giving day trip access to sites along the coast and inland on the plains. Within our 6 days we managed to record 132 species. Highlights include the flocks of migrating bee-eaters passing overhead all day when we were in Coto Donana and at Castro Verde; The close views (scoped at 300 m) of 6 male great bustards (some displaying) near Everreiro; the short-toed eagle that joined us for premium lunch close by; the very close views of a golden eagle close to Everreiro, the thriving house martin colonies in many of the towns and villages (sadly no longer in GB!), the palm tree nesting swifts in Tavira, the 12 caspian terns at Castro Marim, the collored pratincoles whizzing about in Coto Donana and of course the Barn owl in the well (owl at home need nest boxes 4 m up in the air!).
Memorable meal in your beautiful dining room – the pork fillet was superb – and as for the chocolate cake (- (can you send the recipe please). The recently opened “Mesa de chefe” tapas restaurant in Moncarapacho is highly recommended – a warm welcome and excellent food – looks like it will become very popular so best to book a table.
Back to get more rain and wind do doubt tomorrow.
Fred and Muriel Currie, Cornwall, UK
Just as I remembered it, only better! The “upgrade” has worked superbly. Many thanks to Kjersti and Jan-Ketil for a pleasant stay. Lots of great bird watching in the real rural Portugal and the superb cooking. Thanks once again.
Neil Barnard, Cherbenham, UK
Have spent 4 nights here to end our Portuguese/Spanish holiday. This beautiful inland residence has a touch of the “real” Portugal. We bird watched and have been enjoying just walking around the area (especially the Donkey track). Best trip involving a superb hide was the Lundo Farm walk. We`ve been made to feel very welcome in a relaxed way and have appreciated the tasteful + quality surroundings and of course excellent food!Thank you for everything.
Jimmy and Mary , Scotland
Having been here six nights we used this beautiful residence as a starting point for bird watching in the Algarve. All together we spotted over 160 species.
Being birdwatchers we went out early before sunrise and came back just before sunset.
The meals served and cooked by Jan and Kjersti were super! The list of spotted birds will be sent to Jan after we have returned to the Netherlands.
Jacob, Kees and Paul
Even though the weather was not as warm as we had hoped it to be this week in February, the warmth and welcome extended to us by Jan and Kjersti, made all the difference.
Although we did not have any car, Jan’s advice and information on the area was first class and we enjoyed several trips using the local transport and got lots of exercise walking to and from the village. Our apartment was very clean and spacious and Kjersti’s cooking is fabulous!
Thank you both for making the “Birthday trip” so enjoyable.
David and Lynn Gregory, Devon
We have really enjoyed our time here at Casa Rosa – the villa was so comfortable and contained everything we needed for a family with small children. Our hosts were very welcoming and did everything they could to help us with any questions, needs or advices regarding the area. The villa is in a beautiful rural location, within easy driving distance of towns and my husband and I have enjoyed the different birds and plants. I become quite attached to the little screech owl! Thank you so much.
Scott and Samantha Boston, Cemp, Addie, Frankie and Will, Alexander, Illinois, USA
After flying out for a week to join my parents who stay on the campsite, we have had a lovely break. Very relaxing (largely due to super location, and lots of help from Nannie Marian and Poppie Vic!). Emilie loved the beach and swimming pool + celebrating her 3rd birthday with all our new friends at Casa Rosa. Kindly helped by Kjersti and Jan-Ketil!
The refurbished apartment is sparkling clean – thank you – and the new furniture have made our stay very comfortable.
Looking forward to coming back again.
Karen, Didier, Emilie (aged 3) and Camille (6 months)
PS Didier was very happy to find French channels on the TV. thank you (merci).
What a wonderful place. So peaceful and full of amazing birds. A place we would love to return to. Thank you for your hospitality.
Sue and Brian (Davies /Roddis), UK
Dear Kjersti and Jan
It has been so lovely to see you again and to visit Casa Rosa, just what we needed after a tough few months.
We really appreciate Casa Rosa, not that we do very much, just laze around, unwind and enjoy the surroundings, but that suits us just fine, what a wonderful hide-away it is.
Thank you for looking after us, thank you for your hospitality, thank you for being here at Casa Rosa.
Sue and Michael Shelton, Sheffield, Uk.
Dear Kjersti and Jan
We have had a lovely relaxing week here. The weather has been stunning and we have enjoyed making the most of this fantastic location and wonderful swimming pool.
We hope to see you again soon.

Thank you both for a lovely week. Setting us up with a good dose of sunshine and relaxation before everyone is back to school/work. We loved the new look of Casa Rosa, clean and smart with the garden blooming. Hope to see you again soon.
The Strachans, Liphook, Hampshire, UK
CASA ROSA is like an oasis. From the friendly welcome onwards, it was clear that we were going to enjoy our stay. The pool is beautifully clean, apartment spacious and comfortable and Kjersti’s cooking magnificent!
Many thanks Sue & Pete, Kent, UK
Dear Kjersti and Jan
Thank you for a very pleasant stay. Your amenities here made our stay most enjoyable. We will certainly stay with you when we return to the Algarve. In the meantime we will have to encourage our friends to visit CASA ROSA.
Cheers. Brian and Laramie, Vernon, Canada.
Dear Kjersti and Jan
One year on and I made it back to Casa Rosa to sample once again the peace and quiet, great company, your hospitality and the wonderful food!
Love and God bless. Myrna
It is a sad time to leave Casa Rosa when the weather and food have been as good as ever. You make it even harder, but now I have my own little apartment in Moncarapacho. I will be back more often. I look forward to inviting you both to see it when all the furniture is in.Thank you both for all you help and advices too!
Lots of love. Pat.
Dear Kjersti and Jan
Thank you for making my first visit to Casa Rosa a memorable time. I have enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, peace and quiet, and of course the food.
Hope to visit you again in the near future. Once again many thanks.
Best wishes for the future. Lyn, Plymoth, UK
Dearest Jan and Kjersti

Courtney, Amelia, Kamal, Carym and Kai, Middlesex, UK
Dear Jan and Kjersti
We had a wonderful stay at Casa Rosa. 9 days of unexpected bliss – especially as we only booked our holiday 4 days before we came.
We love the location, especially the lovely views and peaceful countryside.
Thank you both for your hospitality. We will most definitely be back, as soon as we can.
Best regards – Ruth and Ed Wichett, Kent, UK
From the Cahill family, Cork, Ireland:
Thanks again for a wonderful time! See you in 2010.
Casa Rosa; the two weeks carrot on a fifty week stick
Dear Jan and Kjersti
Thank you for everything.
Farewell for now – Orlaith
Dear Jan and Kjersti
Thank you very much for your time and the use of the apartment and the pool. This was a very enjoyable holiday. We never wanted it to end. I hope that we will do it all again next year.
I loved the pool.
Thank you very much for a pleasant stay!
Casa Rosa is a nice and quiet place, perfect for a relaxing holiday. Our children have enjoyed it a lot. The swimming pool and the beaches. The location is also perfect: deep in the rural Algarve and close to the beach. We will recommend Casa Rosa for sure.
Best regards Andres, Eva, Enric and Gerard. Barcelona, Spain
Casa Rosa is lovely and we enjoyed a relaxing week here. The unseasonally hot weather (35 degrees) meant we lounged like lizards rather than taking long walks. We enjoyed the Bistro dining especially after a long day at Fuzeta Beach.
Thank you Kjersti and Jan
Jean and Alan R Preston, UK
We have thoroughly enjoyed the warm and smiling welcome – to make our stay a holiday to remember.
Thank you for the useful information for birdwatching and getting around the area. The sunny weather and the food, and the spacious accommodation have provided us with all we could wish on a first experience of the Algarve. We shall recommend Casa Rosa to our friends! Hope to see you again another year. All the best for your future here.
Myrtle and Roy Taylor,Belgium
Jan and Kjersti
What a good choice to come to Casa Rosa for our 40th wedding anniversary! Away from the usual beach holiday fuzz, in a nice and quiet environment. We had a great week with our children and grand children. For us this week was a nice start of the next 10 years and who knows in 2019…
Thank you for your hospitality.
Marie and Toon van Hout, Nuenen, the Netherlands
Dear Jan and Kjersti
We had a lovely week at Casa Rosa. The warm and friendly greeting continued with the warm and friendly duvets, making it hard to get up for early bird watching. The setting for Casa Rosa is very peaceful, ideal for a relaxing time. For us the location is ideally placed for bird watching as it is within easy reach of four major sites and 1,5 hour drive from the fantastic Alentejo region. Of course Casa Rosa comes with its own resident Hoopoe, Woodchat shrike, Iberian Magpie and the only sub-terranian Barn Owl we have ever heard of. The only unfortunate thing is not being able to sample Kjesti’s cooking (chocolate cake, especially), maybe next time. We wish you alle the best for the future.
Clive and Sharon, Hampshire, UK.
Kjersti and Jan
Thank you for the lovely birthday meal and for keeping Casa Rosa so clean and tidy. We stayed 7 weeks in the end and had some great days out and a lot of days just ‘chlling’ with some lovely, friendly people. Hope the lemon and almond cake recipe was as good as you chocolate cake, Kjersti!?
See you next year!
Helen and Les Rutherford, UK
Dear Kjersti and Jan
Casa Rosa will always hold fond memories of our first visit to Portugal. Thank you both for an excellent stay – we felt made welcome by you both at all times. Our meal with you being excellent, the campsite always nice and the wonderful, large and warm shower. We will certainly return another year. Very best wishes to you both.
Geoff and Path Bloor, France
We’ve had a wonderful week at Casa Rosa and have thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to the Algarve. Thanks for the great dinner and all the help and information for getting around (without a car!).
The birding has been excellent. We’ve seen the famous purple gallinule in Quinta de Marim. The boat excursion through Ria Formosa from Faro was also really good; many b irds to be seen and a nice visit to Ilha Deserta. Good luck with learning Portuguese!

It is like coming home coming to Casa Rosa. You have made it so comfortable – especially the beds! – and the garden is blossoming. We shall think of you at Christmas in your beautiful dining room. Thank you for your care. We have had a lovely holiday and hopefully we will be back again next year. Good luck to your both.
Best wishes from Rachel and Rustom Patel, Surrey, UK
PS – a wonderful addition to all the charms of Casa Rosa is the lovely young lady who comes for massage, pedicure, reflexology, etc. Everyone should try it. Ds
What a pleasure it has been to return to Casa Rosa this year and to meet with its new owners. The gardens have been transformed and compliments for the house.
We have had a wonderful holiday with excellent food and good company. We would like to wish Jan and Kjersti our very god wishes for their future on the Algarve and like to see them again soon.

Thank you Kjersti and Jan for a lovely week. It has been very relaxing and enjoyable. Casa Rosa is peaceful but also has a friendly atmosphere and we have had a good time with the other guests.
The location has been superb for birdwatching, according to my husband and son, and we have visited the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, Castro Verde and Castro Marim.
We enjoyed the fish marked in Olhao in the morning and Tavira is well worth visiting. We’ve had nice dinners here on the patio at ‘Kjersti Bistro’ and we also appreciated the restaurants on the square in Fuzeta.
Sagres is a great day trip and we also went on fishing and dolphin trips from Vilamoura. Our children loved the pool, deep clean.
We’re sad to leave and hope we will come back.

Following precise directions and a warm welcome from Kjersti and Jan-Ketil, we found Casa Rosa homely, clean, well equipped and very spacious.
We had lots of excursions as it is our first visit to the Algarve and it only took us about 30 min to get to the Spanish border. The local beaches are very nice but we found Barril beach the best with nice facilities and beautiful golden sand.
Thank you, Kjersti, for the delicious food and thank you both for the help and information. We’ve had a fabulous time and will try to return a.s.a.p. We will happily spread the word to others about Casa Rosa and recommend it for a long or short stay in the sun.

We have enjoyed a quiet week unwinding and discovering the Algarve. A friendly, warm welcome, helpful information and delicious food. I also enjoyed an excellent massage from Carolyn – well recommended.
